Nicaraguan Dairy Sector to Increase Production and Exports

The dairy sector in Nicaragua is planning to increase milk production and exports in 2018, due to favorable weather conditions and a dynamic commercial flow.

According to the president of the Nicaraguan Chamber of the Dairy Sector (CANISLAC), Wilmer Fernández, the organization expects to produce 528 million gallons of milk this year, 48 million more than in 2017.

He also indicated that it is expected to export products worth 200 million dollars, which is 24 million more than the previous year.

'We believe that we can recover the pace we have had in recent years. The sector has registered an upward and sustained growth of five percent,' Fernández said, quoted by El Nuevo Diario.

This, he added, has been reflected in exports; in 2001 we had a deficit and we currently export 176 million dollars, he said.

Fernandez explained that in order to achieve the projected goals, public-private coordination will be optimized, in order to develop a fairer internal trade that will allow achieving better results abroad.
