Managua, Nicaragua; March 6, 2015
Walmart, the largest retail store in the world, will soon open in the Nicaraguan market, confirmed company executives in Guatemala City after their participation in Expo Walmart 2015.
The project will have an estimated investment of US$15 million and will generate around 100 direct jobs and more than 10,000 indirect jobs. According to Eduardo Garcia, Corporate Affairs Manager, Nicaraguan consumers have growing disposable income which is why the company decided to open a new store in Nicaragua.
The investments made by Walmart in the country during 2014 amounted to over US$25 million with the opening of seven new stores and three local renovations, which allowed the creation of 325 direct jobs and more than 600 indirect jobs. Walmart has invested in the country around U$300 million since the opening of its first store.
The retail store has been in Nicaraguan since 2005 and is currently operating under three formats of supermarkets: Pali, Maxi Pali and La Union. The inauguration of Walmart is expected to be in late 2015 or beginning of 2016. Wallmart currently has 3,270 employees in Nicaragua.
